The Rauceby Little Footprint Initiative is proud to present 'The Age Of Stupid' ( www.ageofstupid.net ), an epic docudrama which has been four years in the making. The Village Hall doors will open at 7pm and the highly acclaimed film by Franny Armstrong starring Pete Postlethwaite, will be screened from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Jonathan Hoare (01529 488508) in advance for £3.50 or £5.00 on the door. Money raised will go towards RLFI funds.
The film is set in 2055 and stars Pete Postlethwaite, of 'Brassed Off' fame. He is an archivist, living alone in a very different world, sifting through the evidence of the past whilst posing the question: "We could have saved ourselves, but we didn't. It's amazing. What state of mind were we in, to face extinction and simply shrug it off?"
Jonathan Hoare of the Rauceby Little Footprint Initiative said, "We are really looking forward to screening The Age Of Stupid. It's a very compelling subject, one which the RLFI was borne out of. The message out there seems to be one of saving the planet. People just don't get it. The planet does not need saving. In fact it will be a whole lot better off without the human race! The clear and painful truth is that we as a species are compromised. People are still in denial. They can't see the connection as to how on Earth the way we live our lives can have an impact on climate change. I have a degree of faith in humankind and I believe that we will all get the point. We will all make the changes to the way we live, to the economy, and to find respect for not only this exquisite planet on which we live but also respect for ourselves and our children's future. We need more films like this. People need to be shocked. The last war brought the whole nation together for the war effort. We need to be doing the same today."
"We are told by scientists that there is only just over seven years until the tipping point. This is the point at which climate change will be beyond our control. In as little as twenty-five years, due to the melting ice caps, the sea shore will once more be at Swaton. The majority of the Netherlands will be under water and millions upon millions will be refugees to climate change. The only way to make a difference is by starting from today. If we all work together, as individuals, as community groups, as a nation to solve climate change, then we will have a degree of a chance. There is so much we can do, it is not just about changing a lightbulb or buying a more economic washing machine. The RLFI does not have all the answers but we are working them, and we are all committed to making the difference. It is not all doom and gloom. I am certain that we have the resources to beat climate change."
